My first post…

My name is Angèle Charlebois.  Over the past 10 years I’ve developed a passion for human rights for persons with disabilities.  I am hard of hearing (almost deaf), I wear a hearing aid (BAHA) and I also have a hearing ear dog guide from the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides

Before I received my hearing aid and my dog guide, socializing was something I avoided because I found it too difficult to follow conversations, or asking people to repeat themselves 3 or 4 times.  I was always painfully aware when people were getting frustrated at repeating themselves.  They would inevitably roll their eyes, and sigh out of frustrations.  More often than not, this is when I would pretend to hear.  But that struggle is past me now because I have what I need to be a productive member of society.

The struggles I went through is what made my passion for the rights of persons with disabilities flourish.  I will never pretend that I know it all, but I always ensure that I continuously educate myself.

The things I have learned, the educational articles I have read, the new technology I have discovered and the people I have met over the years are one of the many reasons why I want to start blogging.

Like many people, I have a Facebook page.  But I started thinking that I am posting way too many things on Facebook and that I risk my “friends” may start to “unfollow” me.

This site is a work in progress and with time it will get better and better.  If you have any ideas, suggestions, positive or constructive criticism, then by all means please contact me at angele.charlebois@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Angèle and Candy 🙂
